The relatively warm weather some days and cold weather on others is playing havoc on the state’s hunting and fishing patterns. With some species the harvest depends on a steady weather pattern. But, with the expected high temperature on Christmas expected near 60, some fish and wildlife are not acting like they usually do.

A fishing day trip to Carney Pools in Bishton, Stafford on 9 May this year for 2 men from Staffordshire has resulted in them each receiving a penalty of £619 for fishing without a licence.

State officials have opened public comments for open-water fishing contests in 2022, including angling competitions in Lake Koocanusa and the Thompson Chain of Lakes.

Among nearly 60 competitions listed for comment by Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks, 21 are within Region 1, which covers northwest Montana. Information on the competitions can be found on the FWP Fishing Contest website or by calling 406-444-2449, according to a press release from the agency.

The UK government could be breaking British law by issuing new fishing licences for 2022 and not banning environmentally damaging practices, says NGO Oceana.

Great Britain is about to issue over 1,000 fishing licenses for EU and UK fishing vessels over the next year, and conservationists are concerned that this will mean more bottom trawling in UK Marine Protected Areas (MPAs).

This is in contravention of the Habitats Regulations and Marine Acts and could make the licenses illegal under UK law.
